Foresta Welcomes Hon. Simon Watts MP and Tom Rutherford MP to Kawerau
26 11 2024Last Friday, the Foresta New Zealand team and our Board of Directors had the privilege of hosting Hon. Simon Watts MP, Minister for Climate Change and Minister for Revenue, alongside Tom Rutherford MP, Member for Bay of Plenty. Their visit to our flagship facility in Kawerau underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to ambitious climate targets that will shape New Zealand’s sustainable future.
During the visit, Minister Watts reaffirmed the government’s focus on two key climate goals:
- Doubling renewable energy generation by 2050.
- Reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by 50% below 2005 levels by 2030, in alignment with New Zealand’s Paris Agreement commitments.
Foresta is proud to play a critical role in advancing these objectives by driving sustainable energy production and reducing New Zealand’s reliance on coal.
Minister Watts outlined the government’s strategic approach to achieving these ambitious goals:
