At Foresta Group Holdings Limited (ASX: FGH), we’re excited to share a major milestone for our flagship project in Kawerau, New Zealand. Stage 1 of the project—the construction and operation of a pine chemical and torrefied wood pellet plant—has been included in New Zealand’s Fast-Track Approvals Act 2024. This recognition is a significant step forward for our vision of creating sustainable biomass fuels.
The Fast-Track Approvals Act is designed to streamline decision-making for infrastructure and development projects that deliver significant regional or national benefits. The Act currently supports 149 projects across various sectors, including renewable energy, housing, mining, and more. Foresta is proud to be one of just 22 renewable energy projects included under this forward-thinking legislation.
Being listed in Schedule 2 of the Act allows us to apply directly to the Environmental Protection Authority starting from 7 February 2025. This means Stage 1 can be reviewed by an expert panel, simplifying the approval process into a single application package.
While the fast-track designation accelerates our pathway, we remain fully committed to meeting all necessary consent application requirements. This ensures the project continues to align with environmental and community standards.
The Kawerau project is a cornerstone of Foresta’s mission to produce high-quality torrefied wood pellets—a sustainable and efficient biomass fuel. These pellets will play a crucial role in transitioning away from fossil fuels and towards renewable energy solutions that benefit both New Zealand and the global community.
We’ll continue to provide updates as the project progresses. Thank you for your ongoing support as we work towards a cleaner, more sustainable future!
